এসএআরপিভি’র আঞ্চলিক পরিচালক কাজী মাকসুদুল আলম মুহিতের সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠানটির প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন চকরিয়া থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ জনাব জনাব শাকের মোহাম্মদ জুবায়ের। বিশেষ অতিথি হিসাবে বক্তব্য রাখেন চকরিয়া থানার ওসি ( তদন্ত) জনাব আশরাফ হোসেন, অপারেশন জনাব অফিসার মুজাম্মেল হোসেন এবং অনুষ্ঠানটি সঞ্চালনা করেন পিএইচআরপিবিডি প্রকল্প কর্মকর্তা ইয়াসমিন সুলতানা। অনুষ্ঠানে আরো উপস্থিত ছিলেন স্থানীয় প্রতিবন্ধী সদস্য হাফেজ মোহাম্মদ সোহেল, এপেক্স বডির সদস্য রেজাউল করিম ও ডা. আব্দুল মালেক।

প্রধান অতিথি অফিসার ইনচার্জ জনাব শাকের মোহাম্মদ জুবায়ের বলেছেন “প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিদের আন্তরিকভাবে সহযোগিতা করা প্রত্যেক পুলিশ সদস্যের দায়ীত্ব”। এ লক্ষ্যে বয়স্ক, শিশু, নারী ও প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যাক্তিবর্গদের বিশেষভাবে সেবা দেওয়ার লক্ষ্যে চকরিয়া থানায় একজন নারী অফিসার জনাব শিখা রাণি বড়ুয়াক দায়িত্ব প্রদান করেন এবং যেখানেই প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিরা আইনী সেবা প্রাপ্তিতে বাধাগ্রস্ত হবে সেখানেই প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিদের সাথে যোগাযোগ ও ফলোআপের মাধ্যমে ন্যায় বিচার প্রাপ্তি নিশ্চিত করার জন্য প্রত্যেক পুলিশ সদস্যদের বিশেষভাবে আহবান করেন।

পরিশেষে তিনি এসএআরপিভি’র পিএইচআরপিবিডি প্রকল্পের উদ্যোগে এ ধরনের আয়োজন করার জন্য সংশ্লিষ্ট সকলকে ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করেন এবং জনাব কাজী মাকসদুল আলমকে দীর্ঘ দুই দশক ধরে প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যাক্তিদের সেবায় নিয়োজিত থাকার জন্য বিশেষভাবে প্রশংসিত করেন।

SARPV dreams of a barrier free society where Persons with Disabilities as well as marginalized community can reach their full potentials and enjoy equal rights and opportunities in society. To achieve the goal, the organization emphasizes the responsiveness of the government, non-government and local government bodies, civil society and so on to ensure the accessibility to services of PwDs as well as the excluded communities.

PwDs are exposed to social stigma and stereotypes within their communities. The general attitudes of the duty bearers of GO and NGO, Professionals, LEB and other stakeholders towards PwDs is not positive from community level to national level. Mass People as well as duty bearers often don’t consider that people with disability is the active part of society. They seem to be concerned about the issue of welfare, health or charity rather than focusing on their disability and development. Research and experience has shown that if PwDs receive appropriate support to explore their abilities, they can become involved and contribute to the development process.

Everyone is under risk of to become disabled at any moment. Different mode of diseases, disasters, road accident, building collapses, mal nutrition, lack of awareness etc. are some causes of disability. In Bangladesh where many of the organizations works for the rights and rehabilitation for PwD’s there SARPV give more emphasis on the prevention of disabilities.

In disability prevention program SARPV has a greater focus on “Rickets, It makes a children permanently disabled if it not identified at the early stage and does not take the proper action. Considering this rickets issue especially placed under disability prevention and development program.  Even so Clubfoot, club lift are also under this program those who needs proper attention at the early stage  then it is possible to prevent and to have a better life in future. SARPV also do works against these causes.

Goal:

Making people aware and sensitizing the issue of disabilities and providing technical and information support in ways to prevent or control the challenges of disabilities and facilitating the development of a common understanding on disability and development.

Approaches: Creating mass awareness of PwDS, their families, concerned stakeholders and sensitize them about the issue;

• Developing network with different stakeholders especially who works on health, nutrition and disability issues and sharing information on the causes of information and prevention etc;
• Provides the community with direct supports like physiotherapy, nutritional advice, supplementation, treatments through the assistance of doctors, surgeons and expertise from home and abroad in relation to rickets, clubfoot etc,
• Develop IEC materials and prepare various tools on preventing disabilities;
• Do advocacy with the Policy makers to treat rickets as an emerging health issue in Bangladesh

It is also notable that, Women and girls with disabilities are also facing double discrimination based on gender and disability. They are often excluded from education, health services, family life, employment and also victim of sexual abuse and as well as mental agony. So SARPV trying to strengthen the voice of WwD so that they can individually or collectively claim their rights for equal opportunity and participation in the all aspects of life.

Goal: To ensure their participation and cooperation in the Mobilizing and sensitizing community people and local government process of mainstreaming people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in their locality.

Approaches:
• Ensuring the involvement of local government and other stakeholder’s in development activities and decision making process for the PwDs.
• Sensitize the media at local and national level and other concerned audiences of professionals and civil society.
• Develop network of different groups against common interests, working for local government development and mainstreaming to reduce discrimination within the community
• Organizing and building up leadership, communication, advocacy and networking for Women with disabilities ( WWD)
• Skills develop training for persons with disabilities
• Group meeting with persons with disabilities and develop self help group
