The High Court on Sunday directed the Government's National
Disability Welfare Committee to submit a report within 30 days on
the steps it has taken to provide equal opportunities for disabled
people. This order, given by Justice Md Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and
Justice Naima Haider followed two writ petitions claiming that
people with disabilities were not being allowed to participate in
examinations for the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) and the
Judicial Service Commission (JSC)

Rickets is emerging as a 'threat to public
health' in the country with 5.5 lakh children, aged between 1 and
15 years, suffering from the disease which is completely
preventable, according to a survey.
The current trend of the disease caused by mainly due to deficiency
of Vitamin D, produced when skin is exposed to sunlight, is rising
and it can take an alarming turn if steps to combat the disease are

Around 5,00,000 children in Bangladesh have been affected
with rickets, a childhood disease which causes pain, deformity and
disability, heath experts said on Tuesday.
